If you clicked on this blog to know the “mysterious” product that will help you become fairer, then please read this entire post!
Almost every Indian brand or international brand ‘made for the Indian market’ uses this trick to get higher sales! This is a personal blog, but it is related to beauty, so putting it on here felt right.
Its a sad truth that most of you, maybe all of you clicked this blog to know how you can become fairer, but I don’t judge you for doing so.
Ive been purchasing a lot of products to test and review, some Indian brands and others not, but almost every single one of them will have this line “Helps with Fainess”, when as a skin expert I know for a fact that the ingredients in that product will not AT ALL help you with lightening your skin. It’s a lie, a scheme. But, that’s not what I’m going to be talking about.
As much as I love my job and the industry I work in, through years of experience, I have come to despise a lot about it too. First one being, this. We are constantly being told that beauty equals to how fair you are and if you aren’t you are NOT pretty, so, you should do everything to get beautiful. In other words, Get Fair!
Every single one of you, has had that one aunty or an obnoxious relative tell you that you are Kaali or that you are not Gori, maybe your own parents and it’s okay, there’s nothing to be embarrassed about. You are not alone. You’ve been made to believe that no one will marry you if you are dark, T.V commercials have shown you that a fairer girl will get the Job and if she’s dark she will be rejected. It’s ridiculous!
I have refused multiple clients in my years of working as a skin specialist and a makeup artist. I’ve had people wanting to become fair ‘naturally’ And I’ve politely refused to do so. I’ve had to-be brides, ask me to put a foundation on their face which is 2-3 shades lighter than their skin tone, and I’ve refused to take on the project explaining that I’m not the right Makeup Artist for them. It’s not that I can’t, I just choose not to.
The most absurd situations ive come across is having girls who can already be considered fair wanting to become fairer. What? The only thing left is to dip them in white paint and they still won’t be happy. This is not a physical problem, it’s a psychological one.
Yes, I have also met a lot of girls today who have learned to love themselves for who they are, and a big big hug for you all! But, the ratio is still disheartening.
If you are dark - you are beautiful
if you are dusky - you are beautiful
if you are fair - you are beautiful.
This is world has taught us self hate and it’s done an amazing job at doing so. Don’t listen to the people who tell you aren’t pretty because you look a certain way! Learn to love yourself EXACTLY the way you are.
Stop bleaching your skin.
Stop using the wrong foundation colour.
Stop caking your face with powder.
It’s not okay to be made to feel like you are lesser than anyone else because of the way you look, the way you are, your beliefs, your opinions, anything!
You are who you are, love it, embrace it and the world will have to learn to love you too. And one day hopefully we will not have fairness products in the market.
Some have even said, “it’s easy for you to say, you are fair” actually, I travel a lot, and I’ve spent most of my adult life being tanned or sunburnt. When someone says “you’ve become dark” I simply reply with a “So?” Or “Hey, thanks, I love it”. They have nothing to say after that.
I don‘t mean to preach, I really don’t. But, as someone who deals with this on a daily basis, it was something I had to share. I hope you take this the right way and exit this blog feeling more confident about the beautiful person you already are. (Fair, Dark, Brown, Yellow whatever, however)
If this post even helps one person to change the way they perceive beauty, I have no regrets for sharing this.
P.S - Bleaching actually lightens the baby hair on your face and not the skin itself. Used for a long time and it WILL damage your skin immensely.
I hope this blog helped you,
Until next time,
Stay Beautiful
